Social Policy

AIDInc. initiates and supports health and social research which provide decision -makers with the evidence-base needed to drive policy and programme development. Alongside our technical research and  consultancy assisitance to inform governments' national development agendas, we develop and implement evidence-informed and community-led programing action.

Consultants and associates at AIDInc. use their skills and experience to apply quantitative and qualitative research methods to the identification of policy barriers to programme successes, the analysis of planned or draft policies related aspects of health and social problems and the evaluation of the efficacy of existing policies, making recommendations for their modification.

As dedicated researchers who have worked in the field for over a decade,  we are acutely aware of the importance of translating research into policy and practice and as such, we have been committed to building a strong team of policy experts within the health and social policy division and to transfer knowledge and programming know-how to all levels - from  the grass roots up.

Through our core unit and counterpart youthorganisation, some of our key social research and programing focus areas to date have been:

  • Youth development and empowerment, particularly around life-skills and vocational mentoring for risk reduction, sexual reproductive health and rights,
  • Empowerment of vulnerable and marginalised groups through human rights, media and advocacy approaches
  • Development of institutional and national policies for disease control
  • Assessment of policy needs for mitigating HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination in the community and the workplace – the role of policy in reducing stigma
  • Mainstreaming gender into health and social programmes
  • HIV/AIDS and confidentiality: The role of policies in protecting patient, provider, and sexual partners.
  • HIV and the Care Economy
